The Tennessee version of The Ann Carroll School of Dance was started in the basement of Ann’s home in 1970 when she and her husband first arrived in Franklin. She later built a studio off of Hillsboro Road in the Grassland community where the school remained for thirty years. The building at this location had been enlarged twice. Ann did most of the teaching for approximately 25 of those years. Then she moved to the Factory in Franklin, where she stayed for six years. Then she needed more room so she built out the studio at our current location. She now has 4 dance rooms in a studio that is 8,000 sq. feet. Ann’s daughter, Julie and daughter-in-law, Laura have become artistic directors at the school. Ann, though, is still very active in the school and is present each day to keep the business running smoothly.

The school is now educating daughters of some of her original students and, in one case, the granddaughter of a former student. The Ann Carroll School of Dance has grown each year since its inception and accommodates its students in a faith-based environment which is responsible for many people in the professional performance and teaching worlds.

• We have nine teachers with the education and performance skills to teach anywhere and a Business Manager with years of experience.
• Over 800 students ages 3 through college take classes Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays. Fridays are reserved for private students.
• We are proud of our 8,000 square foot New York-style studio with 4 large teaching areas, a snack room, waiting room with large video monitors, dressing room, office and conference room.
• We have 22 Companies in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and voice with membership through audition. The Companies represent our school at competitions, special shows, concerts and trips and with an opening number at our recital.
• ACSD has an, active Company Parents’ Club whose mission is to support the activities and direction of Ann Carroll, her teachers and the Ann Carroll Company dancers.
• Classes are offered in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, voice, hip-hop and other technical classes important for technique.
• Summer Training Camp is offered for one month for serious dancers of any age.
